James Scroggs sold his first knife in 1985 and specializes in making straight knives that are lightweight for their size, with a preference for high-grade wood handles. He produces his own designs of hunters, hide-outs, and fighters. He is a member of the Arkansas Knife Maker’s Association. In 2012 and 2014, he won the ‘Best Hunter’ award at the Branson Hammer-In & Knife Show.

Missouri knifemaker James Scroggs became enthralled with handmade knives when he attended the Knifemakers' Guild Show in Kansas City, Missouri in 1970. He quickly began to collect handmade knives, then to experiment with making knives, selling his first in 1985. He is now retired from the U.S. Postal Service, where he served as a rural mail carrier, and spends most of his time making knives.
