I received this blade early this week, and figured I'd do a review.

First things first, though. I bought this tanto from a member of Sword Forum International, along with a masahiro bamboo katana. It's in used condition, although it hasn't been used for cutting.

Onward to the review...

The handle grip is made from hard plastic, imitating look and feel of real rayskin.
It's quite comfortable, and fits to my hand very well. It's little rough at few spots, but nothing serious.

Menukis are cherry blossoms, and the one on ura side is attached to a mekugi(single construction I guess). Both of which them are plastic.
Fuchi and kashira seem to be made out of horn. They could also be plastic, but I don't have a way to find out without damaging the fittings.

The blade geometry is hira zukuri with a very sharp point. And the length from munemachi is roughly 18 centimeters, full length without saya is 30 cm.

The hamon is frosty and whitish notare type, as is typical on hanwei swords.

Funny thing is that the blade is noticeably thicker and stouter than it's big brother, the practical wakizashi. Then again, as tantos were made as instruments for stabbing rather than cutting, it's more logical for them to be thicker at base of a blade.

Mune slopes into the kissaki

There's a small nick there, in the shinogi/mune border.

That's it.

Thanks for reading.
