转贴斯洛伐克武者 Martin Tibensky 对于汉威双手击剑的品鉴
Hanwei sparring sword - review
                                                         Martin Tibensky (16/09/2010)
As part of testing of proper weapons and safety aides suitable for Kuns des Fechtens training, we could not avoid Chinese Hanwei swords (wrongly called Federschwert). We had certain concerns about producer, but collaboration with known organization Ochs indicated interesting product at relatively good price. We have tested second generation of Hanwei swords, which was supposed to correct previous flaws like too flexible blade.

Dimensions of weapon
Length of blade: 94 cm
Length of whole weapon: 132 cm
Weight: 1.3 kg
Second generation was really big progress. Major flaw - big flexibility of whole blade was resolved. New generation is flexing only in last third, making possible to work in bind and preventing from painful hits at the same time. We have practically verified that it is possible to make techniques requiring firm bind in real sparring (duplieren, mutieren, winden). But for techniques requiring certain weight on the point (Zornhau ort, zwerchhau, etc. ) is Hanwei not very good.
We appreciate widened and rounded strong part of the sword, which prevents above-mentioned flexibility and protects the edge against quick damage. But these are only positives.
Big disadvantage of this weapon is its very low weight, so it can not imitate real sword in sparring, because it allows unreal actions of fencers. Also, Hanwei could be longer, but it can be matter of habit.
Also workmanship is not any better. Grip breaks apart very quickly and mounting of pommel with wrench is not very handy. Parts of hilt become loose even if maximally fastened. Moreover, head of bolt is made of soft metal and its slot is soon damaged.
The biggest poverty of Hanwei swords is quality of their blades. After cca. 15 light sparrings were broken 3 of 4 our swords. Parts at the end of blade dropped down even under small burden. Therefore I can not imagine their bigger utilization.
The point was secured by safety ending which lasted exactly one minute. I do not know what was the purpose of this but easier and more practical would be to bend the point as can be seen on other sparring weapons. The point without proper ending is quite dangerous.
Summary:
+ price
+ firmness of blade
- manufacture quality
- small weight
- endurance of weapon
- hilt mounting
- point of blade
All in all we do not recommend these swords. Although the price is fair, in daily use they will not last longer than few weeks. With this type is quite safe to spar only in mask and gloves, but let's not forget the unreal weight which cripples good fencing habits. In no case is Hanwei suitable for training of techniques. I would consider buying this sword only if you do not plan to use it intensively. Or if maker would make the point more firm。
