这把刀好像是,16年新出得,一体龙骨,不知道咱们国内刀商有没有,I do not consider myself a “knife guy”. Sure, I always have my EDC folder and a Cold Steel GI Tanto still rides in my BOB in the back of my car. However, knives for me are more utilitarian than those of the Blade Aficionado with their thousand-dollar limited-run customs housing unobtanium steel blades and mithiril scales. Nothing wrong with that, mind you, it’s just that I prefer to pile my cash in other areas.
That is why I have been a fan of Mora Knives for years. In the $10-$30 range, they are hard to beat. Even those with higher taste find it difficult to turn their nose up to a Mora. I have used them in many of my survival kits…many times at the request of the person I was making it for. They last forever, one of the easiest knives to sharpen and don’t scream “commando” when brandished. Heck, I use them every day in the kitchen for preparing meals.
This week Morakniv introduced their new Full-Tang Buschraft Blade, the Morakniv Garberg. It’s currently being pimped out by well-known bushcrafter, Dave Canterbury at Shot Show in Las Vegas. I have been watching updates on this product eager to get as much info as I can as well as answer the biggest question, “How much?” Today, Dave let the cat out of the bag. This new Mora Knife will start with a $109 price tag! That’s for the plastic sheath version, leather will cost you more (understandably). That’s quite a shock and I can’t help but wonder if it will even take off.
As mentioned, when you are looking at $10-$30 knives, Mora is an easy choice. I think many would argue that Mora gets the most respect when comparing knives in that price range. However, once you go up to $100, that is a whole new level. They are going to be competing with names like Boker, Ontario, Becker and many others. Will people pick up what is essentially a $25 knife that has just been extended to a full tang when compared to offerings from those other companies?
I don’t see it, but maybe Canterbury alone will peddle out enough of them for it to be a success. For me, I am sure Morakniv will get at least $100 from my pockets in the future. However, it will be for a bucket full of Mora knives instead of one overpriced one.
